Trends come and go, but there are pieces of clothing that are simply timeless! For me – that one piece of clothing is anything with stripes. I can’t live without stripes. I love them and end up buying them over and over again. I already have a few in my closet and I’ve been wearing them for ages and I still don’t hesitate to buy more. I feel really comfortable, like myself and most importantly I feel confident in them and trust me they always look fresh.

I clearly remember Zeenat Aman in Dam-maro-dam with the bindi, big yellow sunglasses, winged eyeliner and kurta with garland around her neck. She did complete justice to the Hippie Trend and it’s a statement even today. This trend started in the late 1960s and become very popular in late seventies and the early eighties.
One of the prominent trends of Eighties has to be Hippie fashion is all about loud patterns, prints and colors. This trend is associated with flowly silhouettes. Zeenat Aman is the one who popularised the hippie fashion in India with her vibrant colored shirts and dresses (with large amounts of ‘oomph’ factor ofcourse) were the kind of clothes she commonly wore on-screen. She was not conservative in the slightest way and certain trends became exceedingly popular all because of her. Flaired high waist pants and an overall hippie style of dressing was made popular during that time because of the ease in which Zeenat Aman carried these styles. The Retro look was very popular during her time and she took it to greater heights with her sense of fashion and style.
So when I was planning the last part of the story, I know I had to take inspiration from the queen herself. I got this beautiful printed dress from Shopbe and it perfectly fit my eighties fashion story. I paired the dress with a rose pink turtle neck tee. I kept my hair open staying true to the free-spirited vibe of hippie fashion. I carried a suede fringe bag along with it. No eighties look can be complete without a pair of over-sized tinted sunglasses and I prefer yellow. I pop of bright pink on the lips and my clothes transported me back to the eighties.
